Our Story
Leatherback Roasters is a specialty coffee roastery based in the Orlando area, dedicated to sourcing exceptional coffees and roasting them with precision. Our mission is to offer some of the best coffees in Florida and to help other businesses do the same through quality partnerships.
Founded by Nathan and Grace Frey, a husband-and-wife team with years of hands-on experience in the coffee industry, Leatherback Roasters grew from a desire to do things differently. After working behind the bar and honing their craft in cafés, they set out to create a roastery focused on quality, sustainability, and community.
Leatherback started in 2021 on a small roaster in the Freys' garage, with local pop-ups and markets, and quickly expanded with a need for a real home. The Freys searched for and found a location where they could build out the roastery of their dreams. And together, they did just that.
Since opening our roasting facility in 2023, we’ve become known for delivering high-quality specialty coffee that creates an experience worth savoring.

We proudly supply some of the Orlando area's best multi-roaster cafés and retailers—including Craft & Common, Framework Craft Coffee, and Fable Coffee & Pastries. We're also proud suppliers of Luma Bar in New Smyrna Beach, FL and The Fox Mercantile in Cortez, FL.

As a specialty coffee roaster, our focus is exclusively on relational sourcing and the artful roasting of specialty coffee. Based in the Orlando area, we sell our coffees nationwide to retail customers and wholesale partners via our website.
We're always on the hunt for exciting new coffees that taste good—whether it's an interesting variety or a funky process—in addition to our core menu of signature blends that we offer year-round.
We don’t operate a café, which allows us to pour our energy into supporting our wholesale coffee partners across Central Florida and beyond. From sourcing standout coffees to providing training, equipment guidance, and consultation, we help cafés, restaurants, and retailers build exceptional coffee programs. More Than a Name: Leatherback Roasters
You may have wondered—why the turtle? Leatherback Roasters is an Orlando coffee roaster named after the world-traveling leatherback sea turtle. It’s a nod to our Florida home, the adventurous coastal spirit we grew up with, and the global journey of specialty coffee. Like the turtle crossing oceans, the coffees we roast in Orlando travel from growing regions around the world before reaching your cup.
Our name is a reminder that every coffee’s story begins long before it arrives at our Orlando roastery—shaped by place, people, and the journey in between.
Our Approach to Coffee
SOURCING
We believe that the best coffees not only taste the best, but also support all those involved at each step of the supply chain. The only way we can ensure this is by buying traceable coffees. We work with importers who faithfully foster dignifying relationships with the producers who grow and nurture their crop. We maintain high standards for how our coffees taste and equitable treatment for all involved along the way.
ROASTING
We roast and ship each of our coffees weekly, constantly cupping and tasting for consistency and quality. We give extreme attention to detail, and we are dedicated to bringing out the best in all of our coffees.
ALWAYS IMPROVING
Since 2021, Leatherback Roasters has been committed to refining our craft year after year. As a family-owned business, we work side by side with a shared pursuit of excellence.
